Junto da notícia, um trailer batizado de "War in Cyrodiil" foi divulgado. Ele exibe o modo de combate competitivo no RPG online, que permitirá que amigos cooperem para enfrentar outros jogadores em tensas batalhas.
"The Elder Scrolls Online" tem como cenário o continente de Tamriel, que já foi palco para todos os outros RPGs da clássica saga, incluindo os mais recentes "Oblivion" e "Skyrim".
O MMO apresenta uma história indiretamente conectada com a do resto da série, por se passar aproximadamente mil anos antes dos eventos de "Skyrim". Em um tempo de discórida, três facções distintas lutam pelo domínio do trono no qual senta-se o Imperador de Tamriel.
O game está sendo desenvolvido pela ZeniMax Online Studios, desenvolvedora fundada em 2007 que debutará no mercado com este projeto.
